LEAVELL FAMILY AND CEMETERY

John Leavell was born in Virginia and served in the Revolutionary War. He took his family to Kentucky in 1786. He died in 1787. His widow was killed by a falling tree being cut by her son. Children of John Leavell: Gabriel who died 1791, Ezekial, John born in VA 12/27/1774 died 8/1854, Robert, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Hannah, Malinda, Sallie, Nancy and one child whose name isn't known.
Young John Leavell bought about 100 acres in 1816 on Duff's Fork fairly near Mt. Sterling, OH. In 1822 he married Cynthia Hedges, daughter of Joshua Hedges. John and Cynthia had 9 children. Most, if not all, of this Leavell family is buried in the old Leavell cemetery on Post Rd. in Madison Twp., Fayette Co., OH.
