The Official Roster of Ohio Soldiers in the War with Spain, 1898-99
After the explosion of the Maine in Havana Harbor, the United States decided to go to war with Spain. Americans had been killed in the explosion. The President called for troops and Ohio sent nearly 20,000 young men to the cause. This list represents all that could be found of men local to the Mt. Sterling, OH area who served so honorably.
Deaton, Costine-From Mt. Sterling. Age 21 at enlistment. Was Pvt. 9th Btn. OVI Co. B. He was born 12/7/1883 and died in Los Angeles, CA 2/12/1952.
Fox, Anson R.-From Waterloo/Pancoastburg. Age 18 at enlistment. Was Pvt. with Hospital Corps, USA.
Grubb, William G-From Big Plain. Age24 at enlistment. Was Pvt 3rd Rgt. OVI Co E.
