Zoom ‘Around Town’ Book Club Will Be Ugly Christmas Sweater Party

Four fun facts of this year’s December Book Club Meeting:

  1. Our December ‘Around Town’ Book Club will ONLY be held via Zoom this year. Due to the pandemic (not fun), we will not meet in person.
  2. We will be discussing the book An Amish Christmas, by Cynthia Keller, a contemporary work of fiction with a compelling family story. Copies of the book are available at the library.
  3. We are making our Zoom Christmas Book Club meeting into an Ugly Christmas Sweater party! We will vote on Ugliest, Funniest, and Most Original. You may only win bragging rights and a screen shot, but who knows? There could be a gift for a lucky someone. We ask you to join us on screen in your ugly sweater with your cup of eggnog, hot cocoa or hot cider, and Christmas decorations as your backdrop, or whatever you can add to the festivity of the night.
  4. In place of our usual white elephant book exchange game, this year we are having a Secret Santa book exchange! Whether you are joining us for the Zoom meeting or not, you can participate in the Secret Santa. You can opt to send your pre-wrapped book gift in the mail or leave it at the library for the recipient to pick up with your recipients name on it, not yours. The giver will remain a secret, at least until the Zoom meeting. The club facilitator will draw names and send you the information of your recipient. If you participate please send your address and top two favorite genre’s to the facilitator via the Facebook or Instagram message. You can give a book in one of the two favorite genre’s of your recipient, or a book themed gift. You may give a gently used book or new, it is up to you. Some places to get gently used books are: amazon.com halfpricebooks.com thriftbooks.com betterworldbooks.com We will be unwrapping these gifts during the Zoom meeting. If you are not attending we can send you a snapshot of the lucky recipient of your gift.

The ‘Around Town’ Book Club Zoom version has been meeting every month on the Tuesday following the regular in-person meeting since July. Those attending have been enjoying a fun discussion about lots of interesting books of varied genres, with lots of laughs sprinkled throughout the conversations. Anyone new wishing to join in for the first time needs to send an email to reece.melissa.b@gmail.com with “Book Club” in the subject line, or just send a message to the library Facebook or Instagram pages. They will receive an emailed invitation with the log in information the day before or the day of the meeting. This is a great way for others to test their interest in joining a book club. You may opt to dial in if you prefer to use it as a party line and don’t want to use a device with a camera.
